In this lesson, the student will review the concepts of mixed fractions. We'll learn what mixed fractions are and why they are important in math.
Fundamentally, we use a mixed fraction when we wish to represent having more than one of something. For instance, if we have one whole pizza plus another half of a pizza, we have "one and a half" pizzas. This is written as 1 1/2 in terms of a mixed fraction.
It is very important for the student to feel comfortable with mixed fractions in math because in later lessons we'll learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all types of fractions including mixed fractions.
In addition, we'll be learning in later lessons how to convert a mixed fraction to an improper fraction. In this lesson, numerous example problems are worked to illustrate the concepts of mixed fractions.
